5 Beginner Yoga Poses
I’m not sure if you guys are feeling it, but the stress of upcoming and past holidays has definitely been getting to me, and because of that we’ve decided to share some beginner yoga poses you can do to destress and relax during these hectic times.
1- Downward-facing Dog
Start on hand & knees (knees should be directly under your hips and your hands should be directly under your shoulders). Pull your hips up- towards the ceiling. Hold position for 5-10 breaths. Remember to keep pressure off of wrists. You can bend knees if needed.
2- Upward-facing Dog
From a low plank position drop your hips to the floor and turn your feet out so the tops touch the floor. Tighten your core, straighten your chest, pull shoulders back and tilt your head up. Hold for as long as needed.
3- Warrior 2
Spread your legs while in a standing position. Extend your arms parallel to the floor, put your right knee at a 90 degree angle while keeping your left leg straight. Your right toes should be pointed forward while you turn the left foot out. Hold for 1-5 breaths. Switch legs and repeat.
4- Wide Legged Forward Fold
Start with feet wider than shoulders with your toes pointed forward. Lean forward until arms touch the floor. Your weight should be evenly distributed between your heels and toes. Hold for 1-3 breaths.
5- Bridge Pose
Lie on your back with your feet lined up with your hips. Press onto feet lifting your butt off the ground. Interlace your hands underneath your chest and press firmly to the floor to open the chest. Hold for 8-10 breaths.
These were just a few of the easy beginner yoga poses we wanted to share with you guys. We hope you try them out and find some time to destress and focus on you and your mental/physical health during the holiday season.
